The Correlation Between Fatigue and Professional Quality of Life among General Ward Nurse during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

|
Purpose: The new infectious disease, COVID-19, is not over yet. The study aimed to identify the correlation between fatigue and professional quality of life among nurses in general wards during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: A cross-sectional design was used targeting 138 nurses in a tertiary general hospital located in Chungcheongnam-do from November 1 to 3, 2020.
Results: The average age of the participants was 30.64 and the score of fatigue was 3.27. For the scores of subscales of professional life quality were 31.41 for compassion satisfaction, 27.12 for compassion fatigue, and 29.43 for burnout. The scores of fatigue were significantly correlated with compassion fatigue and burnout.
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to expand the region and sample to investigate COVID-19 related fatigue and quality of professional life in nurses. In addition, it is necessary to seek interventions that can improve the quality of professional life for nurses.
